WHO WE ARE

The Oratory Women’s Community is a group of women joining together to explore, support and develop women’s voices linked by our larger faith community.

We strive to discover our shared connections and to develop as an open, inclusive, diverse and multi-generational community.

GETTING STARTED

In the summer of 2019, a notice in the Parish Bulletin at the Brooklyn Oratory invited women who were interested in forming a group to meet.

Seven women came together and discussed what had brought them to the Oratory and what could be created through a women’s community. A Steering Committee formed and met through the fall of 2019.

In January 2020, the Steering Committee invited women from the Oratory parishes of the Assumption, St. Boniface, and area parishes to meet in small groups for Women’s Community Conversations.

Women shared how spirituality had shaped their lives and their experience as women. They acknowledged how their faith had carried them and how, at times, the Church had failed them.

They reflected on what they were seeking, and how their life might be different, if they had a community of women at the Oratory.

Co-Constructing a Path Forward

Voices of Women of the Oratory is a synthesis of the outpouring of ideas from the initial small Conversations of women from the Oratory parishes of the Assumption, St. Boniface, and surrounding parishes. It is a blueprint for the initial activities and actions. The Steering Committee presented these results at the February 2020 Mardi Gras dinner, our inaugural women’s community event.

The Pandemic shutdown happened a month later. OWC’s priorities shifted. We were unable to create many of the suggested activities that include face-to-face contact. We stayed connected through zoom events and phone calls. We look forward to co-creating our post pandemic path forward together.
